| DAILY LIFE SERMONS |

Awareness
The human mind has the unfortunate habit of rushing from one point of
anxiety to the next point of anxiety, skipping over all the peaceful
moments of life. We look ahead, either to expected dangers or joys,
filling the present moment not with the rich experience of actual
life, but with an abstract mental existence of expectation and worry. |

Charity
Charity is mis-used if it’s characterized only as the powerful giving
to the weak. Instead charity should recognize the spiritual truth of
the inter-connecedness of all existence, and be viewed as one part of
creation giving to its larger self. |

Compassion
Compassion, meaning “feeling with” is not simply pity felt at the
sufferings of others, it involves the higher spiritual truth of seeing
the other as ourself, and the universal condition that affects us all. |

Enough
In a paradox of spiritual health,
we must never be satisfied with anything less than the complete
fulfillment of our ideals, yet we must also admit the likelihood that
those ideals will be unfulfilled during our lifetimes. We must learn
to achieve what we can, individually and collectively, and then
peacefully name it, “enough.” |

Gratitude
The feeling of gratitude is
essential to healthy spirituality. We must say thank you for our good
fortune with as much enthusiasm as we curse our ill fortune and then
recognize the deeper gift of gratitude that puts us in touch with the
spiritual goal of connection to a caring something larger than
ourselves. |

Happiness
The possible goals each of us might name for our spiritual
journey: salvation, release, peace, justice are numerous but they seem
to all relate in some way to a goal of happiness: happiness for
ourselves and for others. What does it take to make a person happy?

Hope
Hope acknowledges
that we can't know the future, and thus can't assume that everything
will turn out for the best, but also affirms the possibility of future
joy. Nurturing hope gives us both a dream for the future and a stir
to action in the present. |

Memory
As we live we change
the planet and change the circumstances that future generations will
face in their living. Our challenge is to live in such a way that
each of us indivudally and our generation as a whole will leave a
positive legacy for those who remember us. |

Power
Are we powerless and blown where the universe tosses us or
are we powerful and capable of setting our own course? Every religion
or spiritual system can be defined by who or what has the power. |

Purpose
Each individual is
called to add their unique life to the ongoing creation of the

Vision
Vision is essential
to spiritual health. It’s important that we know we’re we going as we
choose an appropriate path. That doesn’t mean knowledge of the
future, but rather, clear imaging and intention-setting of goals we
want to achieve. |
